Size and space to shine
A front door wreath adds the finishing touches to your home creating a warm, welcoming ambiance and adding a dose of curb appeal. But, not just any wreath will do, size matters!
Too small and it will lose its impact, too large and you’ll get lost trying to find your door knob or worse you could end up closing your door on your decor. So, how do you determine the right size wreath for your door?
Step 1: Location, location location
When to measure depth
Location is everything and some locations require more planning and measuring. If you choose to hang in-between your screen and exterior door you must measure the depth of your wreath to ensure there will be enough space to hang without damaging.
Size, space + placement matters
Step 2: Select your size
You’ll notice most wreaths are 24” wide. This is no accident. This size was selected because a standard door size is 36”. This will leave you a comofortable 6” on the left and right side.
Secondly, you’ll need to decide how far down you want your wreath to hang. I recommend using an 12” over the door hook since it will center it nicely. However, if you have window features on your door, you may want to opt for a longer hook so that your wreath doesn’t cover your door’s details. Wreath hooks can be found in a variety of lengths usually around 12”-18”. However, if that isn’t quite right you can always use a heavy duty removable hook.
This allows space to create enough impact to stop neighbors in their tracks. More importantly, it provides enough space for the door to open and close without damaging the wreath, door or door frame.
